Alnwick Castle, which dates back to the 11th century, has been featured in numerous TV shows and movies.

Located in Alnwick, Northumberland in England, the castle is approximately 36.9 miles from Newcastle and 52.9 miles from the Scottish border.

The castle has been owned by the Percy family for more than 700 years and currently serves as the family home for the 12th Duke and Duchess of Northumberland and their children. While the current family occupies only a portion of the castle, it is open to the public during the summer months and is the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle.

Construction of Alnwick Castle began in 1096, and by the 12th century, it had taken on its current layout. The castle was renovated multiple times over the course of its first five centuries, with the most significant renovation being commissioned by Henry Percy, the First Baron Percy of Alnwick.

Featuring two-meter-thick walls, a seven-meter-deep moat, two baileys, and thick oak gates, the castle is heavily fortified.

Alnwick Castle was used as a filming location for the state rooms in Downton Abbey between 2014 and 2015. However, Highclere Castle was the primary filming location for the popular drama series.

The castle was also used as a filming location for two Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, both released in the early 2000s.
